Well guys, we’ve been keeping a secret for the past few weeks. We bought a house, in VIRGINIA! I know it might seem like this came out of nowhere, but we’ve been planning to move out of New Jersey for years, we just finally stopped talking about it and did it. As much as I have loved living near friends and family for all my 27 years of life, we are ready for a change. And don’t think I wouldn’t bring all of you if I could. Well, most of you 😉
The house is in Buckingham County, about 55 minutes South of Charlottesville. Initially, I wanted to be much closer to the city and we did look at a house about 20 minutes away. But then we wouldn’t have room for a garden and our chickens. Yes, the pet chickens we are going to get. Dan tells me not to name them, because they will probably end up in our oven one day. Dont worry, I won’t let that happen to Cluck and Tinkerbell and Sunny side up.
The house we fell in love with has 17 acres and comes with a chicken coop, how convenient? It also has a pool-something that was at the top of my wish list. Even though it looks more like a scummy pond right now and we’re pretty sure a crocodile lives at the bottom of it..as soon as we move in, we are going to restore it to it’s former glory. It also has 9ft ceilings, a guest house(that needs fixing), a clawfoot tub (life long dream) and hard wood floors in every single inch of the house, even the closets!
After seeing many, many houses(which I will write about later) none of them could compare and we felt like it needed a name. Apparently the former owner thought so too and he called it Sugar Hill. Well, we decided to rename it and have been affectionately calling it the Estate of Grace because it’s cute and clever and so am I. At least, my husband thinks so.
We know moving from busy New Jersey to slower paced Virginia will be an adjustment. But the best part is that If I want to park a school bus on my front lawn, I can. And the worst part is that, so can our neighbors.
Hope you will follow our journey on here as we document life from the state for lovers, adopt a rescue dog, start a garden, and work on the house. You might even see Dan with a chainsaw and me with a sledgehammer. We’ve got big plans, and nothing but a budget in the way.
